Journalist Monia Arfaoui kept at liberty

Monia Arfaoui, a journalist in daily Assabah said she was kept at liberty after being questioned by the El Gorjani criminal brigade in the case brought against her by Religious Affairs Minister Brahim Chaibi. In a statement to TAP, Arfaoui said she appeared before the investigating judge and was questioned in the second case brought against her under Decree Law 54 for a Facebook post. The journalist was questioned last Friday by the El Gorjani judicial division following two complaints filed by the Minister of Religious Affairs. One was about an article in which she raised suspicions of corruption in connection with the pilgrimage, and a second complaint was about a Facebook post. Arfaoui said her lawyers, on Friday, filed a complaint against Brahim Chaibi, in his capacity as Minister of Religious Affairs, for defamation. Arfaoui’s lawyers considered her trial under the provisions of the Penal Code as “a flagrant violation of the freedom to work as a journalist”.
