Juaben: The Juaben Municipal Health Directorate has initiated a breast cancer screening and awareness campaign aimed at promoting health within the community. The event took place at the Juaben Old Circuit Court premises and included free cancer screenings, blood pressure checks, weight monitoring, and counselling on regular health check-ups.
According to Ghana News Agency, the programme, themed 'A Cure Worth Fighting For,' began with a health walk through Juaben's main streets, displaying messages such as 'Prioritise Breast Exams', 'Breast Cancer is Deadly', and 'We Can Reduce Cancer Cases.' Mrs. Jualina Akomea Opoku, the Municipal Director of Health Services, highlighted the campaign's focus on breast cancer prevention and early detection, underscoring the importance of women's and older people's health rights and well-being.
Mrs. Akomea Opoku emphasized early detection and treatment, noting the widespread impact of breast cancer on families and communities. She urged community members to prioritize screening and self-examination, stressing these practices as critical for saving lives. Additionally, she called for the elimination of stigma surrounding breast cancer victims and encouraged pregnant women to seek regular medical care.
Mr. Caleb Adu Agyemang, the Presiding Member for the Juaben Municipal Assembly, representing the local Member of Parliament, reiterated the significance of self-examination. He encouraged women to perform regular check-ups to detect any issues promptly. Highlighting the communal impact of breast cancer, he urged market women to utilize the free screening services.
The event witnessed participation from hundreds of Juaben residents, students, and individuals from nearby communities, all benefiting from the healthcare services provided by professionals.
