Judges dismissal: “Saied recognises injustice yet refuses to admit it publicly” (Anas Hmadi)

“The President of the Republic knows the injustice endured by the judges who were dismissed, yet he refuses to acknowledge that publicly and reverse his decision,” President of the Tunisian Association of Judges (French: AMT) Anas Hmadi said.

Speaking at a press conference about the latest developments in the case of the dismissal of some 50 judges held Tuesday in Tunis, Hmadi pointed out that «we thought this case would be resolved as soon as possible, however, we are still waiting for a judicial solution.»

Hmadi expressed hope that the issue will be resolved by the administrative court rather than the Executive.

He called on the President of the Administrative Court to issue fair verdicts for the dismissed judges, claiming that the legal deadlines were not met in that case.

He recalled that the AMT will participate in broader consultations with the various legal structures so as to discuss the measures to be taken in a protest against the Decree-Law No. 35 and Presidential Decree No. 516 related to the dismissal of 57 judges.
