Kaïs Saïed warns against any attempt to “instrumentalise” Interior Ministry

President Kaïs Saïed warned against “any attempt to undermine the Ministry of the Interior” or “instrumentalize it for personal gain.

He said he was “confident the Ministry will face with force all those who try to infiltrate it or infiltrate the state apparatuses.”

The president said «it is the ministry of all Tunisians and not any party.»

At a meeting with Ridha Gharsallaoui, acting Minister of Interior at the headquarters of the department Wednesday, Saied called these parties “hypocrites” who will be fought “within the law”.

He urged them to “abide by the law and the decisions of the Minister and President of the Republic.»

Kaïs Saïed, on July 29, issued a presidential decree tasking Ridha Gharsalllaoui with running the Ministry of the Interior.

He had dismissed, on July 25, Prime Minister Hichem Méchichi, who was also acting as Interior Minister.

The President of the Republic also froze the Parliament and lifted MPs’ immunity.
