Kasserine governorate and other regions are in very dangerous epidemic situation (Nissaf Ben Alaya)

“The epidemic situation in the governorate of Kasserine is very dangerous as in other governorates of the country including Kairouan, Sidi Bouzid, Beja, Siliana, Kef and Jendouba,” said Monday Nissaf Ben Alaya, spokeswoman of the Ministry of Health.
Ben Alaya added in a statement to TAP on the sidelines of a meeting of the regional committee for the fight against the coronavirus in Kasserine, that this critical situation requires the taking of drastic measures in order to interrupt the chain of infection while calling on citizens to assume their responsibility and to show caution and vigilance.
She stressed the imperative of applying health protocols that have proven their effectiveness in preventing coronavirus infection.
According to updated data, a permanent increase in the number of positive cases is noted in the governorate of Kasserine with an increase in the number of deaths in addition to a high occupancy rate of beds equipped with oxygen and resuscitation in the various health institutions in the region, Ben Alaya said.
She also pointed out a weakness in the number of people registered on the Evax system to receive the vaccines against COVID-19. The location of vaccination centres far from rural areas is among the causes that have slowed down the registration for vaccination, she said.
Regarding the most common variant in Tunisia, Ben Alaya said that the British variant is the most widespread in the country with a rate of 90 %.
5 cases affected by the South African variant of COVID-19 have been discovered recently, including a local case in the governorate of Kasserine, but without causing infection, the same source noted.
