Kasserine: Promotion of income sources for rural women in Zelfane

An integrated agricultural project launched in 2017 in Zelfane, in the Foussana delegation (Kasserine governorate) has contributed to the creation of income sources for 24 rural women in partnership with the Banque nationale agricole.

In the coming weeks, these future breeders will be provided with 97 dairy cows imported from Germany. Medium-term credit has been granted to beneficiaries. A second lot will be distributed to other women in the region.

In addition to a centre for the import of heifers for the benefit of young promoters in the centre-west, the integrated agricultural project has a perimeter of 55 ha of irrigated fruit trees, including 14 ha of organic prickly pears (for export), 40 ha of organic olive groves, as well as sheep and poultry farms, an oil mill and a packing unit.

The project has created 14 permanent and 20 seasonal jobs.
