The 5th edition of the Douz Camel Race (Governorate of Kebili) returned after a two-year suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the participation of over 10 Arab countries and foreigners.
The two-day event (November 26 and 27) seeks to introduce this ancestral sport to a large audience, as well as promote Saharan tourism, the event’s Director Ahmed Abdelmoula told TAP on Sunday.
This 5th edition is marked by the participation of most Arab Union countries in the camel races, besides the presence of Algeria, Libya and France in the various marathons, the same source said.
The event will also feature performances by folk troupes as well as camels’ beauty contests.
A scientific symposium on the prospects of intensive camel breeding and milk production, an international photo competition and an international endurance marathon (21 km) will be on the agenda at the second day of the race.
