Keta Central Assembly-Member Calls for Immediate Road Repair to Boost Economy and Tourism

Keta: Mr. Gabriel Dzikunu, the Assembly Member of the Keta Central Electoral area in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region, has expressed concern over the deplorable state of the road network within the area. The poor condition of these roads has been a long-standing issue, significantly impacting economic and tourism activities in the region.

According to Ghana News Agency, the roads have remained in a poor state for decades, affecting the transportation of goods by business personnel and deterring tourists from visiting the area. Mr. Dzikunu highlighted that areas such as Lagoon View, Market Street, Library, Fort Street, Chapman, Evangelical Presbyterian Lane, Ghana Commercial Bank, Togbi James Ocloo, and Amegashie Afeku Roads are particularly affected.

Mr. Dzikunu emphasized the urgent need for accessible road networks, as residents continue to express frustration and disappointment over the neglect of these roads, which are vital for the community’s economic survival. He noted that the poor condition of roads in Keta Central is a major concern for residents, who are demanding action from the government and municipal assembly to prevent further deterioration.

Residents’ concerns are valid, considering the importance of these roads to the local economy and tourism industries. Mr. Dzikunu hopes that the government, through the municipal assembly, will take the necessary steps to address the situation. The Keta Central constituency is an important economic and tourism hub, featuring attractions like the Keta Main Market, Keta Shopping Mall, historic Fort Prinzenstein, and beautiful sandy beaches, all of which require a good road network for effective access.

Some residents, as reported by Ghana News Agency, have called on the government and the Municipal Assembly to take immediate action, threatening to apply pressure if their demands are not met. They suggested that the assembly should utilize the DRIP machines project initiated by the previous government to address the bad road concerns, thereby supporting the local economy and tourism industry.

Further information gathered by Ghana News Agency indicates that the Keta Municipal Assembly plans to address the bad road networks soon. It was also revealed that in 2023, the government, through the Keta Municipal Assembly, began work on portions of the road around the Market, but the work stalled, leaving residents disappointed and demanding answers from the authorities to bring the contractor back to complete the projects.
