Kumasi: Mr Kofi Adu Domfeh, a Senior News Editor at the Multimedia Group, secured 20 votes to triumph in the Ashanti Regional chairmanship race of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA). His competitor, Ms Georgina Ama Ankomah, a Manager at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, garnered 11 votes in the rerun election.
According to Ghana News Agency, the rerun was mandated by the Election Dispute Adjudication Committee (EDAC) of the GJA following a petition against the initial results of the June 30, 2025, regional election. In the previous election, Ms Ankomah had narrowly lost by a single vote, polling 15 votes compared to Mr Domfeh's 16 votes.
The rerun saw a total of 31 votes cast, including three by proxy, achieving a 100 percent voter turnout. The results were officially declared by the Electoral Commission Presiding Officer, Mr. E.T. Odonkor. Mr. Peter Martey Agbeko, Chairman of the Elections Committee, praised the stakeholders for ensuring a free and fair election process that accurately represented the will of the members.
The Committee emphasized the need for unity within the Ashanti Regional GJA to foster a vibrant and inclusive union. Previously, on July 9, 2025, the EDAC had postponed the swearing-in of the elected Ashanti Regional GJA executives after receiving the petition challenging the initial chairmanship result. Upon ordering the rerun on July 24, 2025, Mr Zakaria Tanko Musah, Chairman of the EDAC, cited 'critical irregularities' in the initial June 30 election process.
