Tamale: Kosmos Innovation Centre (KIC), in partnership with Mastercard Foundation, has organized a zonal pitch event in the northern sector as a precursor to the upcoming AgriTech Challenge Classic. This event is aimed at fostering the entrepreneurial spirit among young individuals interested in the agriculture technology sector. According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Stanley Amamu, the Community Lead at KIC, highlighted that this year's KIC AgriTech Challenge Classic spans seven months. It is crafted to discover and nurture budding entrepreneurs eager to launch their own enterprises. The initiative provides exhaustive support to participants, including coaching, market research assistance, and business development training, with the help of both internal and external subject matter experts. Mr. Amamu emphasized that the program employs coaching and market research tours to inspire participants to explore the agricultural value chain from new perspectives, identifying potential business opportunities in previo usly overlooked areas. Dr. Issaka Balma Yakubu, Senior Lecturer and Director of the Business Innovation and Incubation Centre at the University for Development Studies (UDS), noted that the initiative aims to enhance the practical knowledge acquired by students in the classroom. He observed that the zonal pitch has significantly boosted participants' confidence, preparing them to launch their businesses post-graduation instead of relying on government jobs. Miss Saima Adamu, a UDS student, shared that the training support from the zonal pitch enabled her team to establish an agribusiness focused on processing fresh cow milk for the market. Similarly, Ms. Ruth Moiyabit Biimi, a student from Bolgatanga Technical University, mentioned that her team developed a concept for producing biochars and compost to enhance soil fertility for farmers in the northern sector.
