Kpassa-Wura Leads Efforts to Douse Nkwanta Tensions in Konkomba Communities

Nkwanta: The Paramount Chief of Kpassa, Ubor Dr. Tasan Konja VI, has taken a significant step towards promoting peace in the Nkwanta area by urging the Konkomba youths to refrain from violent retaliation following the recent shooting of a Konkomba student at Nkwanta SHS school and two more youths. Ubor Dr. Tasan VI condemned the incident and called for calm, stressing that without concrete evidence of the perpetrators, any form of retaliation could worsen the situation and harm innocent people.

According to Ghana News Agency, Ubor Dr. Tasan, in an interview, urged his sub-chiefs in various Konkomba communities to speak to their youths and promote peace. Speaking to the Konkomba community at Odumasi, under Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti, he revealed that relatives of the deceased student from the north had planned to come to Nkwanta for retaliation following the incident. However, he had extensive conversations with them and was able to stop them from carrying out their plans.

He appealed to community members, especially in Konkomba communities, to help prevent any potential retaliation. He told them to be vigilant and to encourage anyone who may be harboring thoughts of revenge to refrain from such actions. Ubor asked community leaders to allow any individuals who may have secretly entered their jurisdiction for retaliatory purposes to leave peacefully.

The violence in Nkwanta township and its environs has had a devastating impact on residents, particularly traders, students, and government workers, disrupting commercial activities and highlighting fear in the Municipality. Many citizens are now calling for swift and stronger intervention by the government to prevent the situation from escalating into a full-blown conflict.

The Kpassa-Wura's efforts to promote peace and development in the Oti Region have been recognized by the Minister, Mr. John Kwadwo Gyapong, who pledged to work closely with traditional authorities to restore calm.
