Lack of a District Hospital Impeding Quality Healthcare Delivery in Adansi Asokwa

Adansi Asokwa: Lack of a modern district hospital is hampering healthcare delivery in the Adansi Asokwa. The absence of a district hospital forces health officials to refer most cases, which could have been managed in the district, to other nearby health facilities.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. David Kunta, the District Director of Health Services, stated this at the annual performance review meeting of the directorate at Adansi Hwiremoase. He said the health performance in the district for 2024 indicated an increase in performance in terms of major indicators in access to quality healthcare delivery. Available statistics reveal that the district is improving in terms of all major health indicators set by the Ghana Health Service.

He expressed satisfaction with the district's progress in healthcare, noting a decrease in maternal mortality rates, with a 100% reduction in deaths related to childbirth. This achievement, he stated, reflected the dedication of the healthcare team in enhancing access to quality maternal healthcare services.

However, Mr. Kunta pointed out that the absence of a district hospital remains a significant challenge, leading to frequent referrals to nearby hospitals and affecting the efficiency of healthcare professionals in the district. He also raised concerns over the rise in teenage pregnancy within the district.

Mr. Kunta highlighted the impact of unintended pregnancies on the education and well-being of young individuals, linking the issue to societal factors such as poverty, lack of education, and inadequate support systems. He emphasized the need for comprehensive programs to address these factors, including sex education, reproductive health services, and support for vulnerable youth. He urged parents and community leaders to join efforts in combating teenage pregnancies by empowering young people to make informed choices.

Mr. Kunta concluded by stressing the importance of prioritizing the well-being of children and providing necessary resources to help them thrive.
