Sidi Bou Sad:Lamia Bouzouita, a Tunisian-Italian artist, presents her exhibition "Venice and the Land of Wonders" at the Galerie Saladin, showcasing from October 3 to 25. The exhibition features a collection of artworks that merge the Venetian light, Tunisian motifs, and imaginary worlds.
According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse, the opening event took place on Saturday evening, attended by the artist and various guests from the arts and culture sectors, as well as members of the Italian community in Tunisia.
Bouzouita, who has lived in Venice for many years, expressed her artistic journey between her birthplace, Tunis, and Venice, where she studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts. Her works reflect the convergence of her Tunisian roots and Venetian experiences through colors, arabesques, and light interplay. She describes Venice as "the city of light," inspired by its fog, reflections, and atmospheric qualities.
Her artistic life, she explains, is a fusion of these two worlds, also drawing from her early background in computer science. Before studying at the Beaux-Arts in Venice, she earned a degree in computer science, which influences the algorithmic thinking seen in the geometric compositions of her paintings.
The exhibition at Galerie Saladin includes five series: "Lost in the Carnival," "Alice," "Murano," "Flowers," and "Space." "Lost in the Carnival" introduces a universe highlighted by colors and motifs, while "Alice" reimagines the world of wonder and dreams through signs, shapes, and colors. The "Murano" series is inspired by the glass-making heritage of the Venetian island, featuring transparency effects, textures, and motifs.
"Flowers" presents floral compositions with vivid colors, and "Space" explores geometric and relief compositions with halos and concentric forms reminiscent of celestial bodies and nebulas.
Through these creations, Bouzouita's paintings blend Mediterranean references, decorative motifs, geometry, and light play, embodying her dual connection to Tunis and Venice.
