Property officers in the Ben Arous directorate of ownership are involved in the case of forgery of land titles in the region, Minister of State Property and Land Affairs Mohamed Rekik said Wednesday.
The involvement of these people has been revealed through an administrative investigation ordered since last May by the Registrar of Land Ownership on suspected falsification of land titles, through the change of data stored in the computer system relating to land properties, noted the minister who was on a working visit to the region.
The prosecutor’s office has initiated criminal proceedings, following which three people have been placed in custody and a fourth is wanted.
In the meantime, the administration has frozen the transactions on the titles subject to falsification and preserved the property rights.
Other measures have been taken at the Ministry to secure the working system and to carry out a general control of all state property and a real estate inventory.
Regarding the case referred to by the Head of State and on the lease of a state land for 27 thousand dinars, Rekik said the Committee of General Control of Public Services has opened an administrative investigation into the procedures of this transaction. He noted that the granting of these lots is subject to prior control by 3 committees at the Ministry of Agriculture, which then refers the file to the Ministry of State Property and Land Affairs.
