Launch of North African coastal protection network, main achievement of WWF integration project

The launch of a North African coastal protection network, the development of a guide on coastal management in Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco, and the establishment of a partnership between the various actors involved in the protection of coastal areas have been the main achievements of the integration project carried out by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) since last April in several North African countries.

The project which held Thursday its last workshop after a year of work, has helped intervene in Ghar el Melh in Bizerte, Skikda in Algeria and in Nador in Morocco, said project co-ordinator Hammadi Gharbi.

It also provided the basis for a dialogue between the various stakeholders — State institutions, organizations, civil society, private sector and professionals, Gharbi specified.

Studies on legislation related to management and protection of coastal regions have been conducted within this framework, he added.
