Law on elections passed

The House of People’s Representatives (HPR), on Tuesday, passed the bill amending and supplementing the Organic Law No. 16 of 2014 on elections and referendums. A majority of 139 MPs voted for the bill and 22 abstained.

The debate on this law was suspended for more than 7 months due to disagreements between the political parties concerning articles described as “delicate”, in particular the article on the participation of the military and security forces in the elections.

Some 144 MPs voted for Article 6 on the right to vote for security and military forces, while eleven voted against it and three abstained.
