Legislative elections: Bouasker calls for supporting ISIE’s efforts

President of the Independent Higher Authority for the Elections (ISIE) Farouk Bouasker called on all stakeholders in the election process, notably the judiciary police, to support the efforts of the ISIE’s officers in charge of monitoring the electoral campaigns.

Taking the floor Thursday at the opening of a study day on “the election crimes and the role of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the judiciary police,” Bouasker pointed out that this support should include the role of the prosecutor’s office in investigating crimes during the campaign period, particularly on the voting day and at the end of the election process at the polling stations.

The monitoring of the election campaign is only feasible with a proper enforcement of the law to all without exception, he considered.

“The election crimes must not go unpunished and unprosecuted,” Bouasker argued, calling for breaking definitively with the phenomenon of impunity in the election process.

Besides, the ISIE President underlined that this meeting is an occasion to present the most important principles and rules governing the election campaign and the polling day, in light of the modification of the voting method and the distribution of constituencies for the December 17 legislative elections.

“The security forces are called to support the Local authorities for the elections (IRIEs) so as to further monitor the election campaign (November 25-December 15),” he added.
