Libyan crisis: any attempt of settlement cannot be effective without involvement of Libyans (Mahmoud Jibril)

Former Libyan interim Prime Minister, leader of the National Forces Alliance, Mahmoud Jibril, said that any initiative to resolve the crisis in Libya could not succeed if the Libyans were not part of it.

He said that he asked President Beji Caid Essebsi, during their meeting last month, to involve the Libyans in the tripartite initiative (Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt).

On the sidelines of an international conference organised by Afek Tounes party on Thursday, the Libyan official told TAP that “Caid Essebsi was of great advice and help to the Libyans” adding that “no one can ignore the determination of the neighbouring countries to resolve the crisis in Libya which is a national security problem for Tunisia, Egypt and Algeria.”

Unlike the previous initiatives of the Arab states, he said, the final declaration of the recent Arab summit held in Jordan “did not mention the presidential council, nor the government of national accord, but the Skhirat agreement which is now unanimous “.

For Jibril, this agreement remains the basis, but requires substantial modifications, “given the fiasco of the performance of the presidential council, in one year and half.”
