(TAP) – The lifting of the house arrest imposed on leader in Ennahdha Noureddine Bhiri after 67 days of his “abduction and forcible detention» is an admission of the innocence of the movement and its leaders in all the defamation and harassment campaigns they are subject to, said its spokesperson Imed Khemiri.
Speaking at a press conference on the developments in the country and the end of the “abusive detention of Bhiri”, Khemiri said all the leaders of the movement and their assets are in the hands of an independent justice, calling “all those who hold evidence incriminating Ennahdha or its leaders to go to courts.»
“The independent judiciary has dismissed the case in first instance regarding the electoral crimes attributed to Ennahdha, in the Tunis 1 and 2 list,” he said, adding that no foreign funding has been established for these two lists.
This justice, which does not work under any external authority, including the executive, will prove to public opinion that the party respects the law and acts within the framework of the law governing political life and organisations, he stressed.
Khemiri said the Tunisian justice system has rendered judgments in the cases of sending people to conflict zones and no evidence has been found on the involvement of a party leader or any party close to Ennahdha.
«After seven months of individual rule and the July 25 coup, no corruption has been attributed to the movement,» he stressed.
For his part, Abdelfatteh Taghouti, Ennahdha’s communication officer said the reforms that will be decided under the state of exception, which he described as restrictive for Tunisians, cannot succeed in the absence of a broad political consensus and popular reconciliation that takes into account the country’s economic situation.
The house arrest imposed on Ennahdha leader Noureddine Bhiri and former security official Fethi Beldi last December 30 was lifted on Wednesday March 2.
