LMD system will not be abandoned ( minister)

There is no intention to do away with the Licence – Master – Doctorate (LMD) system, said Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister Slim Khalbous. A comprehensive overhaul will rather be introduced.

There are flaws in the implementation of the LMD, Khalbous underlined as he visited Saturday the new premises of Kairouan University and Ibnou Rachiq secondary school to monitor the conditions of the Baccalaureate resits.

LMD reforms bore fruit in several countries, the Minister highlighted. Failure to comply with international standards in Tunisia accounts for the system not functioning optimally.

Urgent reforms will be carried out during the new academic year in relation to the assessment system of theoretical and practical subjects, pending a revamp of higher education, he indicated.

The Reform Committee is now working on improving the LMD system; a detailed report that outlines structural reforms poised for 2018-2019 will be published soon.
