Low turnout for vaccination in doctors’ practices and private laboratories

President of the Tunisian Union of Private Doctors Samir Chtourou on Saturday said that the number of people who had received the Covid-19 vaccine in doctors’ practices and private laboratories has reached about two thousand persons, two weeks after the start of continuous vaccination operations.

Chtourou added in a statement to TAP, that this number could turn out to be a little higher after the periodic census of the number of vaccinated people.

He explained this low turnout by the fact that vaccination is limited to the age group of 40 years and over and is done with the AstraZeneca vaccine, which is distrusted by some people.

He also pointed out that a large number of people aged 40 and over had been vaccinated during the intensive jab days that had started on August 8.

Chtourou expressed willingness of private sector doctors, especially paediatricians, to vaccinate children under 12 if this age group is included in the national vaccination strategy.
