The Tunisian League of Human Rights (LTDH) firmly condemned the police violence against anti-referendum protestors who had on Friday taken to the Habib Bourguiba Avenue.
The LTDH expressed in a statement on Saturday, solidarity with the victims of these assaults, calling the authorities to initiate a “serious and independent” investigation into this incident.
The league expressed its unequivocal rejection of depriving citizens of their right to express their opinions, calling in this regard to immediately release the detainees and to stop all proceedings against them.
“The right to protest peacefully is a right recognised by international conventions and the Tunisian Constitution of 2014, as well as by Article 22 of the draft new Constitution,” the LTDH recalled.
The league held the President of the Republic solely responsible for the assaults against protesters
