LTDH denounces that its activists are “targeted” by police and justice

The Tunisian League for the Defence of Human Rights (LTDH) denounced, on Friday, that its militants and all activists of social movements are “targeted by the police and judiciary” to “prevent them from expressing themselves and exercising their right to protest and demonstrate”.

The LTDH communiqué follows the conviction in absentia of Hamza Nasri, vice-president of the League (Tunis Medina/Bab Bhar section), to three months in prison for “insulting a public official by words, gestures or threats” in the case of social movements dating back to late 2020 – early 2021.

It also concerns the appearance of other officials before the courts of Siliana and Bizerte for “support and documentation of social movements in the two governorates”, it says.

The LTDH warns that “mixing the security and judicial parties with major political issues, and harassing and condemning the League’s activists, is not the solution”.

In this connection, it reaffirms its commitment to its independence of decision in all major national issues “and in particular those of rights, freedoms and gains achieved by the people at the cost of blood.

It also reiterates its support for movements calling for the revelation of the truth on several issues, including those of assassinations, administrative and financial corruption and impunity.
