The political bureau of the Machrou Tounes party has approved the merger with the Al-Watan Party after a series of consultations between the two parties, Khaoula Ben Aicha, a member of Machrou Tounes and MP told TAP on Thursday night.

“The merger of the Al-Watan party with Machrou Tounes will be effective after the completion of the procedures of dissolution of the former at the national and local levels,” she said.

The Al-Watan party had announced earlier this week that the political bureau of the party decided by a majority of members to merge with Machrou Tounes.

The political bureau has appointed president of the Al-Watan party Mohamed Jegham to undertake the legal procedures of the merger.

“The merger decision was made after extensive and intensive consultations between the Al-Watan party and Machrou Tounes movement which resulted in common visions and a methodology of action on major national and international problems”, he said.
