Macron Warns Israel’s Planned Offensive on Gaza Could Lead to Regional Conflict

Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday cautioned that Israel’s intended military action in Gaza could result in ‘a real disaster’ affecting both Israelis and Palestinians, with the potential to escalate into ‘a permanent war’ across the region.

According to Anadolu Agency, Macron revealed that he had discussions with Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. The leaders expressed a shared belief that a political and humanitarian approach is the only viable solution to the ongoing conflict. Macron emphasized the necessity for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the release of hostages, increased humanitarian aid for Gaza’s populace, the disarmament of Hamas, and strengthening the Palestinian Authority’s role in Gaza.

Macron also advocated for an international stabilization mission in Gaza, urging efforts towards a political resolution that accommodates the aspirations of both Palestinians and Israelis. He reiterated France’s commitment to co-chair, with Saudi Arabia, a forthcoming conference in September in New York focusing on a two-state solution, underscoring that this pathway is essential for the wellbeing of hostages’ families, Israelis, and Palestinians alike. Macron concluded his remarks on a hopeful note, stating: ‘No to war, yes to peace and security for all.’
