The units of the Maritime Guard have rescued seven illegal migrants and recovered two bodies off Chebba, after the sinking of a boat carrying 30 people on board.

The fishing boat left the Baghdadi beach, Mahdia, for an illegal crossing before sinking probably because of overloading, a source from the Mahdia Maritime Guard told TAP.

The search for survivors or other bodies is underway off Chebba where the boat sank, he added.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office at the courts of Monastir and Mahdia has opened an investigation, Deputy Prosecutor Farid Ben Jha also told TAP.
