Man Falls to Death from Lower Volta Bridge in Sokpoe.

Sokpoe: A man believed to be in his early 60s, tragically lost his life after falling from the Lower Volta bridge on the ECOWAS highway at Sokpoe in the South Tongu District on Monday, October 28, 2024, at about 14:00 hours. The body of the man, yet to be identified, has been deposited at the Sogakope District Hospital Mortuary after a report was made by residents at the Sogakope District police command. According to Ghana News Agency, eyewitnesses reported that this incident was the third of its kind in the past three years. The deceased reportedly alighted at Sokpoe from a commercial motorcycle, walked back to climb the bridge, and jumped into the river. An eyewitness, Godwin, mentioned, "We thought he had forgotten something and wanted to go back for it, but he jumped into the river before we could intervene." Fishermen who witnessed the event attempted to save the man but found him dead. Mr. Edmund Fingeroo Dickah, the Assembly Member for Sokpoe Electoral Area, confirmed the incident, noting that the de ceased was not known in the area, and no missing person report matching his description had been received. An unspecified amount of money and a handkerchief were found in the deceased's pockets, though a male handbag seen with him before the jump was missing upon retrieval of the body. The man was described as well-dressed, wearing a blue-black kaftan and a necklace. Mr. Dickah urged the public to provide information regarding the deceased's identity or family.
