Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca affirms wish to make most of Tunisian experience in childhood field

President of the Malta Foundation for the Wellbeing of Society and of Eurochild network Former President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca on Monday underlined the willingness of her foundation and the network to foster partnership with the Ministry of Family, Women, Childhood and the Elderly through the implementation of bilateral and multiparty cooperation programmes for the benefit of children in Tunisia and the Mediterranean region.

She affirmed wish to make the most of the Tunisian experience, in particular the Children’s Parliament, set up in 2004, during a working session on Monday in Tunis, with Minister of Family, Women, Childhood and the Elderly Amel Belhaj Moussa, at the Ministry’s, according to a department press.

Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca commended the economic empowerment programme for mothers of pupils at risk of dropping out of school and the public kindergarten programme.

Amel Belhaj Moussa pointed out that 1,700 children are enrolled in 30 public kindergartens.

She presented the “Our garden in our neighbourhood” programme, which has helped raise the number of beneficiary children to 20,000, with the aim of guaranteeing equal opportunities in priority and border areas where pre-school services are poorly covered.
