May 24 will be first day of Eid al-Fitr, says National Institute of Meteorology

The first day of Eid al-Fitr of the Hijri year 1441 will scientifically coincide with Sunday May 24, 2020, announced the National Institute of Meteorology (INM).
Yet, only the Mufti of the Republic is entitled to announce the opening day of the Eid, it added.
“It is impossible to sight the crescent of the new month of Shawwāl of the Hijri year 1441 after the sunset on Friday, Ramadan 29,” the institute said in a note published on its website.
The INM said the crescent marking the advent of the month of Shawwāl can be sighted on Saturday May 23, 2020 after sunset, from 6.39 PM (local time), nationwide in and Arab and Islamic capitals.
