Mdhila-Phosphate: production of TSP resumes

The production of triple super phosphate (TSP) resumed at the Tunisian Chemical Group (GCT) plant in Mdhila (Gafsa governorate), said the regional director of the plant, Mustapha Mourad.

The restart of the activities of the unit of Mdhila comes after a month of suspension because of the completion of the stock and the stoppage of phosphate supply by the Gafsa Phosphate Company (CPG), because of the protest movements, added the same source.

The regional director of GCT said that the production of phosphoric acid and triphosphate will gradually return to normal pace in all plants of the group following the resumption of activities of the CPG last week.

Since February 5, the activity in the factories of the chemical group were completely stopped because of the phosphate stock shortage from the units of the Gafsa Phosphate Company. They have been blocked by protesters contesting the results of the fourth phase of the recruitment contest of 1,700 workers announced on January 20.*

The daily phosphate requirement for the Mdhila plant is 2,600 tonnes. The plant produces 460 thousand tonnes of triple super phosphate per year.
