Mdhila-Protests: phosphate and fertiliser activity blocked

Protesters in Mdhilla, on Thursday, forced workers at the Gafsa Phosphate Company (GPC) and the Tunisian Chemical Group (GCT) to evacuate their workplaces, thereby blocking any activity in these units operating in the delegation, GCT regional director Mustapha Mrad told TAP.

This action was carried out after a demonstration observed by the coordination of unemployed people, to protest “the government’s failure to meet its commitments to the delegation and the legal proceedings brought t against the sit-inners”, a member of the coordination, Hichem Henchiri told TAP.

The protesters demand fixing Mdhilla’s share in the measures announced by the government delegation on March 16, 2018.

These measures are based on the recruitment of 1004 agents at the CPG and GCT and the implementation of a two-year training cycle for 2,000 thousand beneficiaries ahead of their recruitment in the phosphate company.

An investigation was initiated by the public prosecutor on the evacuation of the CPG and GCT workers, besides the torching of the police station of the city of Mdhilla on Wednesday, against the background of protests by jobless people.
