Sekondi-takoradi: The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Health Directorate in the Western Region has called on the media to assist in enhancing the awareness and sensitisation efforts regarding the Mpox disease among the population.
According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Pius Mensah, the Sekondi-Takoradi Metro Health Director, emphasized the necessity of this initiative to enhance public education on best practices to disrupt the transmission chain of Mpox within the Metropolis. In a discussion with journalists, Dr. Mensah revealed that Mpox cases are escalating in Sekondi-Takoradi, with over 70 confirmed infections recorded to date.
Moreover, there are currently 184 suspected cases, with confirmed infections identified in about 15 communities, particularly those situated in coastal areas. Dr. Mensah noted that three healthcare workers have also contracted the disease and are currently receiving treatment.
Dr. Mensah expressed concern over the deteriorating situation in the Metropolis and urged the media to disseminate information to the public, encouraging them to prioritize their safety to contain the spread of Mpox. He further appealed to the public to avoid actions that could contribute to contracting or spreading the disease.
He stressed that the situation demands collective vigilance and strict adherence to public health guidelines to prevent further spread of Mpox in the Metropolis.
