Tunis: Tunisian Firas Katoussi bagged Tunisia's first gold medal at the Taranto Mediterranean Games 2026, after defeating Morocco's Haitam Zarhouti (2-1) in the final of men's -80 kg taekwondo event.

According to Agence Tunis Afrique Presse, Katoussi had reached the final after defeating Lebanese Yusuf Faraj (2-0), Spanish Mikel Fernandez Garcia (2-0), and Serbian Stefan Takov (2-0).

As such, Tunisia's medal count in the taekwondo category rose to 4 (1 gold by Katoussi, 2 silver by Wafa Masghouni (-67 kg) and Mohamed Khalil Jendoubi (-68 kg) and 1 bronze by Chaima Toumi (-57 kg)).
