Meeting between “Tunisia First” and Al-Jomhouri

The preparations for the municipal elections and the political and economic crisis in the country were at the centre of a meeting on Tuesday evening, between two delegations of Tunisia First movement and Al-Joumhouri party.

A rapprochement of views between the two delegations has been recorded, said Wednesday a statement of Al Jomhouri party, adding that it was agreed to further coordinate the positions around these issues to monitor the municipal electoral process.

The chairman of the constituent committee of Tunisia first, Ridha Belhadj, told TAP on Wednesday that the meeting is part of the bilateral meetings scheduled by the movement with several parties belonging to the Union to discuss the upcoming municipal elections and the delicate general situation of the country.

“With the Al-Joumhouri party, we are convinced that the ruling power crisis has become global and requires the identification of radical solutions and an end to the quota policy that has totally paralysed the government,” Belhadj said.

According to him, the initiative undertaken by Tunisia first and Al-Jomhouri is a kind of “warning cry facing the stifling crisis in the country”, stressing the imperative to “continue joint action to overcome this political imbalance “.

“The Civil Union has taken a step forward in this direction but remains insufficient and it is now necessary to consider the creation of a front or a pact to implement the urgent reforms as agreed at the last meeting of the political committee of Tunisia first, “he said.

Regarding the upcoming municipal elections (May 6), Belhadj said efforts will focus on supporting the lists of the Civil Union and the independent lists that support it.

Eleven political parties have agreed to participate in municipal elections in joint lists in 48 constituencies under the banner of the Civil Union. This decision was taken in mid-January, following a meeting of the secretaries-general of the coordination of the 11 political parties.

The signatory parties of the declaration of the Civil Union are Afek Tounes, Al-Badil Ettounsi, Machrou Tounes, Tunisia First, Al-Joumhouri, Al-Moustaqbal (the Future), Al-Massar, the Labour Party patriotic and democratic, the Democratic Meeting, the Democratic Movement and Al-Moubadara.
