ZARZIS, Six migrants drowned and another 30 are missing after their boat sank off the Tunisian coast while trying to reach Europe, said local authorities and the Tunisian Red Crescent.
Another 34 migrants were rescued by Tunisian Coast Guard units after the boat sank off Zarzis near the Libyan border, Tunisian Defense Ministry spokesman Mohamed Zekri said.
According to survivors, there were 70 people on the boat when it left Libya, including Egyptians, Sudanese and one Moroccan.
A search operation is still underway for the missing.
The survivors were taken to a port in Ben Guerdane, said Tunisian Red Crescent official Mongi Slim.
