The investigating judge at the Permanent Military Court of Tunis issued a detention warrant against journalist Salah Attia on Monday, member of the defence committee lawyer Malek Ben Amor told TAP.
The defendant appeared Monday before the third investigating judge at the Military Court, ben Amor added, saying his client refused to answer the questions addressed to him.
Attia is claiming his right to appear before civil justice and to be judged in accordance with the provisions of Decree-Law No. 2011-115 of November 2, 2011 on freedom of the press, printing and publishing.
In support to their client, the defence lawyers committee withdrew from the interrogation session; “we categorically reject the appearance of civilians before military justice,” he said, adding the trial is purely political.”
Journalist Salah Attia was arrested last Saturday on orders of the military prosecutor’s office, following his remarks on Qatari television channel al-Jazeera. He stated that the Tunisian Army “refused the orders of President Kais Saied to surround the premises of the Tunisian General Labour Union.”
The UGTT, for its part, denied the allegations of journalist Salah Attia.
