Minister Highlights Success of EU-Funded Climate Project in Northern Ghana

According to Ghana News Agency:TR project provided essential technical support, knowledge sharing, and funding, which significantly bolstered local efforts against climate-related issues. The workshop focused on "Building Resilience Against Climate Change in Northern Ghana through Transformative Development Action," urging development officers to extend their collaborations beyond mere interactions to real, inclusive actions involving communities, traditional leaders, civil society organizations, and the private sector. Mr. Yakubu stressed the importance of empowering communities to take climate action into their own hands, promoting climate education, sustainable practices at the grassroots level, and community participation in decision-making. He noted the crucial roles of women and youth in local leadership for climate resilience initiatives, particularly in agricultural production and natural resource management. The Regional Minister also expressed his satisfaction with the program, which not only high lighted the impacts of climate change but also equipped them with tools and resources to enhance their capacities. He emphasized the need for capacity building and investment in research, data collection, and innovative technologies to create forward-looking policies and effective strategies to combat climate change. Dr. William Quarmine, Regional Researcher - Development Economist at the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), shared that since its inception in 2019, the REACH-STR project has successfully co-developed a social transformation research for development framework. This framework serves as an analytical tool that aids development officers in understanding societal transformations in response to climate challenges, helping in crafting interventions that promote positive transformations while minimizing adverse impacts. Mr. Hudu Abu, Acting Upper West Regional Director of Agriculture, and Mr. Bilattey Bimi, Wa East District Planning Officer, also attested to the effectiveness of the soci al transformation framework in enhancing the responsiveness and robustness of development plans, reducing time and costs associated with plan preparation.
