Sunyani: Mr Joseph Addae Akwaboa, the Bono Regional Minister, has inaugurated the re-constituted Bono Regional Coordinating Council, with a task for various Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) to prioritise the holistic development of the region, aligned with the government’s ‘reset’ agenda.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Akwaboa urged the council members to ensure that their decisions corresponded with the developmental aspirations of the region. He emphasized the importance of cooperation among the personnel of the Assemblies to support the chief executives in achieving this goal.
The council is comprised of MDCEs, Presiding Members, representatives of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Heads of Departments and Agencies, and the Regional Coordinating Director, as outlined by the Local Governance Act, 2016, Act 936. Their primary responsibilities include coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating the work of the various Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs) in the region.
During a brief ceremony that coincided with the council’s maiden meeting in Sunyani, Mr Akwaboa reiterated the need for the MDCEs to ensure their development processes are in alignment with the government’s ‘Reset Agenda’. He called for effective collaboration with stakeholders to enhance the economic prospects of the region, emphasizing that the ‘reset agenda’ demands holistic and inclusive development processes. He urged the assemblies to focus on improving the standard of living for people in their respective areas.
Mr Akwaboa stated, “In view of this, we are to work closely with the appropriate authorities to ensure that our beloved region equally benefits from the sharing of the national cake,” and he implored the populace to put aside political differences in support of the region’s progressive development.
He also called upon stakeholders and local development partners to renew their commitment to service, accountability, and innovation in local governance, asserting that the people of Bono look to them to drive progress, unity, prosperity, and sustainable development. “With diligence and partnership, we will continue to make the Bono Region a model of effective governance and inclusive development,” Mr Akwaboa added.
