Legislation in the banking sector, uncollectable debts and ways to develop the legal system regulating finance and business were discussed at a meeting Wednesday between Minister of Justice Minister Leila Jaffel and a delegation from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD).
The Bank’s representatives reaffirmed at the meeting their willingness to continue to support the Tunisian economy and to accompany the Ministry of Justice in areas of reform pertaining to the establishment of an “integrated” system to fight against payment defaults.
“The IBRD is ready to provide all its expertise in the development of procedures for the settlement of disputes,” the representatives of this Bank were quoted as saying by a statement from the Justice Ministry.
They also expressed the World Bank’s concern to strengthen the capacity of justice and encourage all initiatives to generalise business chambers in courts, calling for the establishment of a specialised business court to help promote investment in Tunisia.
The Minister of Justice considered it “essential” to support opportunities for cooperation and consultation, particularly in the field of legislation, calling for drawing from comparative experiences in this area.
The meeting is part of a visit of the delegation of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development to Tunisia, from February 14 to 18, 2022.
