Minister of National Defense receives Turkish Ambassador in Tunis

Minister of National Defence Abdelkarim Zbidi received Thursday Turkish Ambassador in Tunis Omer Gucuk.

According to a statement of the Defence Department, the meeting examined ways of the implementation of the decisions on the establishment of a high-level Tunisian-Turkish military joint commission.

These decisions were taken during the April working visit by Minister of National Defence Abdelkarim Zbidi to Turkey.

The Commission will be tasked with exploring opportunities for co-operation with military industry enterprises, providing technical assistance and promoting the transfer of expertise in this field.

It will also have the mission to schedule visits to Tunisia for the benefit of Turkish business leaders.

During this meeting, Zbidi recommended that an action plan be established to implement these decisions and to monitor and assess them.

He also voiced satisfaction to see Turkish companies aspiring to open branches in Tunisia and to carry out joint studies on investment opportunities in the military industry.

In turn, the Turkish ambassador reasserted his government’s will to support Tunisia and provide all the necessary assistance to meet its security challenges, noting Turkey’s willingness to respond favorably to the will of Tunisia to endow it with the status of privileged partnership in the field of military industry.
