Minister of Women Affairs urges accelerated ratification of Maputo Protocol

Minister of Women, Family, Children and Elderly Affairs Neziha Laabidi Friday called for speeding up the ratification of the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) on the Rights of Women in Africa (Maputo Protocol).

This protocol will reinforce Tunisian women’s economic, social and political rights, she Friday told a parliamentary committee hearing.

This 32-article protocol commits African Union (AU) member states to guaranteeing women’s political, economic and social rights. It was adopted on July 11, 2003, at the Second Ordinary Session of the AU Assembly of Heads of State and Government in Maputo, Mozambique.
