Ministry of Industry grants 4 exploration permits for minerals in Tataouine and Zaghouan

The Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy has granted 4 new exploration permits for minerals, including three in the governorate of Tataouine and a fourth in the governorate of Zaghouan, under orders of the line Minister dated December 29, 2021 and published in the Official Gazette of the Tunisian Republic (JORT) of January 28, 2022.

The first exploration permit for minerals of the 4th group in “Kasbah Bou Nemcha,” governorate of Tataouine, is granted to the company “Rose du Sud”.

This permit which includes an elementary perimeter of 400 hectares, is granted for an initial period of 3 years and it is governed by the mining code.

The company “Rose du Sud” is required during the period of validity of the permit to carry out the minimum programme of exploration work to which it is committed and whose total cost is estimated at 105 thousand dinars.

The second permit of the 4th group in “El Boudour” in the governorate of Tataouine, was granted to the company “Forachem” for an elementary perimeter of 400 hectares.

It is also granted for an initial period of 3 years and governed by the mining code.

The company “Forachem” is required during the period of validity of the permit to carry out the minimum programme of exploration work to which it is committed and whose total cost is estimated at 123 thousand dinars.

As for the third permit of the 4th group in “Kasbet Zammaz” governorate of Tataouine, it was granted to the company “Concretica”, for an elementary perimeter of 400 hectares and an initial period of three years. During that period the company is required to carry out a minimum programme of exploration work whose total cost is estimated at 105.5 thousand dinars.

The fourth permit of the 6th group in “Oued Nabhana,” governorate of Zaghouan was granted to Rached Lahmar. This permit includes a single elementary perimeter, 100 hectares.

Like the first three permits, it is granted for an initial period of 3 years, during which Rached Lahmar is required to carry out the minimum programme of exploration work to which it is committed and whose total cost is estimated at 150 thousand dinars.

According to the Tunisian Mining Code, minerals are classified into 6 groups. The 4th group covers solid or dissolved natural salts occurring in massive deposits or natural brines such as chlorides (including sea salt), bromides, iodides, borates, sulfates, nitrates and other salts associated in the same deposits.

The 6th group includes predominantly mono-mineral rocks, especially for industrial applications other than those used in civil engineering, such as kaolin, illites, smectites, attapulgite, calcite, dolomite, magnesite, silica…
