Monastir-Accident-Sidi Bennour: bus driver placed in custody

The public prosecutor’s office in Monastir ordered to detain one of the drivers of the two buses carrying female workers which collided on Saturday morning at the main road of Sidi Bennour (Moknine delegation), spokesman for the Courts of Monastir Ferid Ben Jha told TAP.

The driver placed in police custody for homicide and unintentional injuries did not respect the STOP sign.

The other driver was kept at liberty pending his appearance before the Criminal Chamber for not taking the necessary precautions in this fatal accident, in accordance with sections 89 and 90 of the Highway Code.

The accident occurred on Saturday morning at 6:46, according to security sources.

Two buses belonging to a garment factory in Touza (Monastir governorate), intended for the transport of female workers, collided.

One of the two buses rolled over. Two workers died on the spot and about 82 passengers were injured, according to an updated toll provided by Hichem Belhaj, director of preventive health at the regional health directorate.
