Monastir-Handicraft: “Creative Tunisia” project progresses at sustained pace

The project “Tunisia creative” (2020-2025) to strengthen the value chains of the handicrafts and improve the quality of the handicraft product in Tunisia, is advancing at a steady pace, national coordinator of the project, Talel Sahmim, told TAP Thursday on the sidelines of a monitoring visit to the project in the governorate of Monastir.

Six sectors to be developed in the regions had been selected by this project, namely: the ready-to-wear in Tunis, traditional textiles in Monastir, pottery in Moknine, plant fibres in Gabes, esparto in Kasserine, traditional carpets in Gabes and copper in Kairouan, in addition to a sub-project to enhance the ancestral knowledge of some craftsmen.

The project also supports companies specializing in this field for the marketing of their products and items on foreign markets, including support for participation in exhibitions and international fairs.

Funded by the European Union, this project is implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), in collaboration with the National Handicraft Office of Tunisia (ONAT), according to the same source.
