Money Becomes Dominant Force in Ghana, Warns Reverend Dzansi

Aflao: Reverend Eric Dzansi, Minister in charge of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG), Kodzi, near Aflao, has emphasized the growing influence of money in Ghanaian society, highlighting its role as a powerful force that opens doors and dictates respect. Speaking during a sermon at the EPCG National Presbyters Union Week thanksgiving service, Rev. Dzansi reminded Christians of the challenges in serving both God and wealth, noting that the two demand ultimate loyalty and ownership of one's heart.

According to Ghana News Agency, Rev. Dzansi's sermon was themed 'You Cannot Serve God and Wealth,' drawing from biblical passages such as Psalm 113, Amos 8: 4-7, 1 Timothy 2: 1-7, and Luke 16: 1-13. He observed that money has become a dominant language in Ghana, affecting societal values and interactions. The wealthy, he noted, receive more dignity and respect, while the wisdom of the poor is often ignored. This societal shift has led many to prioritize wealth over ethical and spiritual values.

Rev. Dzansi expressed concern over the lengths some individuals go to amass wealth, citing examples such as young men joining fraudulent groups, traders using deceptive practices, contractors inflating project costs, and public officers demanding bribes. He also criticized some preachers for turning their platforms into business ventures, exploiting their congregations.

The reverend warned of the dangers of allowing money to become one's master, stating that it can lead to the compromise of truth, loyalty, and integrity. He highlighted the impact of wealth on justice and human life, cautioning that it can lead to societal destruction.

Rev. Dzansi urged Christians, particularly those in leadership, to use their wealth to uplift the poor and benefit society. He encouraged believers to place God first in their lives, letting wealth serve rather than control them.
