More than 500 experts from 96 countries attend 15th ITU International Symposium in Hammamet

More than 500 experts from 96 countries take part in the 15th International Symposium of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) on Telecommunications Indicators held Tuesday in Hammamet, TAP journalist noted.

The three-day symposium will be an opportunity to announce the addition of three new indicators of the assessment of the progress of countries in the field of ICT to bring them to 14 indexes at the beginning of 2018, said Director of Telecommunication Development Bureau at ITU, Brahima Sanou.

He highlighted Tunisia’s active contribution to the various ITU activities with a view to strengthening international cooperation in this field and its position as an ICT production hub.

In turn, Minister of Communication Technologies Anouar Maarouf noted that the symposium will be marked by an in-depth debate on the adoption of other indicators related to technological developments in this field, indicating that the technology development indicator of Information and communication “ADA” is of great importance for Tunisia and for many countries of the world, especially as it is among the indicators most followed by investors in this area.

For Tunisia, this event is an opportunity to learn about the approaches taken in the calculation of the ICT Development Index in order to improve its rating internationally, he said.

The works of the symposium will be mostly devoted to developing international standards for monitoring the economic and social impact of ICTs including new domain name standards, cyber security, cloud and artificial intelligence. A presentation of ITU’s annual report on the World Bank Development Assessment and the ICT Development Index will be made on the second day of the symposium.
