Morocco Strongly Committed to Reduce Carbon Footprint – Official

“The Kingdom has been able to achieve undeniable progress in sustainable mobility with major projects, such as the high-speed trains, tramways, and electric buses among others,” said Chami, speaking at the 4th International Conference on Sustainable Mobility (CIMD) and the annual conference of the International Road Federation (IRF).

In this vein, he noted that Morocco, which currently imports 80% of its energy needs, is well on its way to achieving its energy transition, which is likely to ensure its sovereignty in this area.

“Morocco has a huge potential for renewable energy (solar and wind), which can enable sustainable economic growth, meet the challenges of the future and succeed in its energy transition,” he said.

He further noted that studies show that Morocco can become one of the pioneering countries in the production of green hydrogen, thanks in particular, the Public-Private Partnership (PPP).

For his part, the Director General of the Moroccan National Highways Company (ADM), and President of the International Road Federation (IRF), Anouar Benazzouz, stressed that the 4th CIMD is a good opportunity to highlight the pioneering experience of Morocco in sustainable mobility.

While praising the importance of this large-scale event, he recalled the main mission of the IRF, which is to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise, foster partnerships and collaboration, and work with other stakeholders to shape policies and advocate for sustainable mobility.
