MP Ali Bennour resigns from parliamentary group of Afek Tounes

MP Ali Bennour, on Monday, handed in his resignation from the parliamentary bloc of “Afek Tounes” and all the party’s structures because of the “monopoly over decision making within the party.”

The move came a few days after the resignation of MP Hajer Ben Sheikh Ahmed from the Afek Tounes party.

Speaking to reporters in the parliament’s hemicycle in Bardo, Bennour justified his decision by “a crisis of monopoly” within the party, fueled by a policy of exclusion of anyone who does not share the opinion of the party president.

“The president of Afek Tounes has created a climate of tension within the party, thus promoting a real split in all structures,” he accused.

For her part, resigning MP Hajer Ben Sheikh Ahmed said the parliamentary bloc of Afek Tounes is considered, today, as a dissolved group after the resignation of Ali Bennour.

According to Ben Sheikh Ahmed, the “Afek Tounes” group no longer has the sufficient number of MPs (7) to form a parliamentary bloc.
