MP Faisal Tebbini was arrested at his home in Nabeul Monday by a unit of the judicial police enforcing an arrest warrant issued by the senior examining magistrate of the Court of First Instance in Jendouba.
Tebbini is facing a complaint filed on October 10, 2019, by the former public prosecutor over “dissemination of fake news, defamation on social media and call for civil disobedience,” spokesperson for the Court of First Instance of Jendouba, Skander Zoghlami told TAP.
At a meeting streamed on social media Tebbini “had hurled insults at the public prosecutor (who has filed a complaint against him) and incited participants in the meeting to commit acts of vandalism. Tebbini had refused to appear before the investigating judge, as he had parliamentary immunity, the same source added.
The investigating judge has revived the judicial process against Tebbini based on the decisions taken on July 25 by the President of the Republic, including lifting of parliamentary immunity of MPs.
The MP should appear under arrest before the courts in three other cases over the same charges.
Indeed, Faisal Tebbini is the subject of three other complaints filed on October 30, 2019, by a former public prosecutor, on October 14, 2019, by a civil society activist and on November 5, 2019, by a lawyer in Jendouba.
