MPs of the “For the People’s Victory” initiative, on Friday, called for urgently holding a plenary session to respond to the European Parliament and defend the country’s sovereignty and the independence of its decisions.
“The struggle for sovereignty is the essence of national liberation struggles. It is inseparable from the “democratic and social struggle”, they stressed in a statement.
The MPs expressed their categorical rejection of the resolution adopted by the European Parliament on Thursday, considering it a “blatant interference in Tunisia’s internal affairs”.
The deputies of the “For the Victory of the People” initiative also expressed their attachment to freedom of expression and assembly “without being subordinated to foreign interests”.
In this context, they reiterated their attachment to the principle of the presumption of innocence and their confidence in the independence of the Tunisian judiciary.
This statement comes after the European Parliament adopted a resolution on the internal situation in Tunisia, in which it expressed its “deep concern” about the violations of rights and freedoms reflected in recent arrests.
